Tax Strategy

Tax Preparation looks backward. Tax Strategy looks forward.

Planning that happens while the year is still open, documented in a Tax Savings Roadmap and followed through every quarter.

The difference

Tax Preparation

Reports what already happened. Accurate, on time, complete. Essential, but by the time a return is prepared the year is closed and most decisions are locked.

Tax Strategy

Decides what should happen before the year closes. Retirement contributions, entity and payroll choices, estimated payments, timing of income and purchases, reviewed against your facts, documented and followed through.

A short example

A preparer sees in March that a client could have funded a retirement plan in December. A planner sets that up in September.

The engine

Every strategy engagement runs through the same five steps and ends in a written Tax Savings Roadmap, not a PDF you forget.

  1. Analyze

We gather prior returns, year-to-date income, books, payroll, estimated payments, retirement contributions, entity details, rentals and planned purchases.

  2. Identify

We find legitimate opportunities and risks, and we say which ones you are eligible for.

  3. Build

We write the strategy with the federal and Georgia effect, the cash required, the paperwork and the deadline for each item.

  4. Implement

Action items with dates and owners, tracked to completion.

  5. Monitor

Quarterly reviews so the plan survives contact with real life.

The Tax Savings Roadmap

One document with every section in the same order, and a status on every recommendation (Proposed, Accepted, Declined, In Progress, Completed or Deferred) so nothing is forgotten.

  • Current tax picture
  • Projected liability
  • Opportunities
  • Estimated effect
  • Cost and tradeoffs
  • Implementation steps
  • Documentation
  • Deadlines
  • Responsible party
  • Quarterly follow-up

What we look at

  • Estimated taxes and withholding
  • Retirement plan options (SEP IRA, Solo 401(k), IRA considerations)
  • Accountable plans and documentation
  • Home office and vehicle
  • Entity review and S corporation analysis with reasonable compensation
  • Real estate depreciation, and coordination of cost-segregation or 1031 specialists
  • Year-end timing
  • Georgia-specific considerations
How we decide

We never recommend a strategy because it is popular online. Each one is checked for eligibility, federal and state effect, cash flow, administrative cost, recordkeeping, deadlines, documentation risk, interaction with other strategies and long-term impact. We show the cost, cash and paperwork before you decide.

Plans

Pricing depends on complexity. Every engagement starts with a written proposal that shows the exact price before any work begins.

Generally, if you expect to owe $1,000 or more in federal tax after withholding and credits. Georgia has its own test based on income not subject to withholding. The final payment for 2026 is due Friday, January 15, 2027. We calculate your amounts as part of tax strategy or a standalone projection. We do not send generic numbers.

What is the difference between tax preparation and tax strategy?

Preparation reports what already happened and files it accurately. Strategy decides what should happen before the year closes, such as contributions, entity and payroll choices, estimated payments and timing, and writes it down with deadlines. Preparation looks backward. Strategy looks forward.
